Vocabulary

Here is where you can find the weekly vocabulary words. 

We are studying how to use prefixes, roots, and suffixes to built meaningful words. Over the next several months, we will continue these explorations into the building blocks of our language.

Vocabulary for Week 2:

Prefixes

Con-  : together, with

Pro-  : in agreement with, good

Roots

-cede/ ceed-  : to yield, to go

-test- : to determine the quality of something

Suffixes

-ed : forms the past tense of verbs

-ing : forms the present participle of verbs

Vocabulary for Week 3

Prefixes

Ad- : to, toward

Anti- : against, opposite

Roots

-vert- : to turn, to change

-sume- : to take, to use

Suffixes

-ment : state of, result, turns verbs into nouns

-ize : system, group

 

Vocabulary for Week 4

Prefixes
Trans- [L] across, beyond
Audi- [L] to hear
 
Roots
-suade- [L] sweet
-duct- [L] to lead
 
Suffixes
-ence [L] process, quality, forms nouns from verbs
-ial/-al/-eal [L] relating to, belonging to, forms adjectives from nouns
 
Week 5
No new vocabulary this week.  Quiz on the vocabulary from the previous weeks.

Remember, you can earn extra credit points on your journals by including words that combine these.
